Many people are intrigued at the thought of having and owning a water filtration system in their home, however most people won’t actually purchase one. Why is that? I feel it’s because most individuals may not understand the benefits of having one, or in different perspective, detriments of not having one.
Let’s dive right in to the proverbial water and see what the big deal is, shall we? The water that our water district provides us with is not exactly river water, but there are several contaminants and toxins in it. A quick search on the EWG (a well-known source for testing and detecting irregularities in municipal water sources) will reveal 15….15 contaminants in the water right here in Clarksville. Things like Bromodichloromethane, Chloroform, Chromium (Hexavalent), Dibromochloromethane, 1-Butanol, and much more. Took you a minute to get through those didn’t it? If it is hard for you to even pronounce what that stuff is, why would you want it in your water? So no, it’s not just H2O running through the pipes in your home; there is much more to it than meets the eye.
Now that we know what is in the water, how does it affect us? The contaminants found in the water can cause a slew of potential illnesses and diseases over long periods of time to include cancer. This isn’t to say you will necessarily have something like this happen to you solely because of the water, however it is to inform you of the inherent risks that are present. I like to think of it in the perspective. Your body is made up 60% of water, water which comes from what you drink, eat, and absorb from humidity and bathing. Whether it be the water you drink when you exercise, make yourcoffee/tea with, use for cooking, or taking your morning shower. By simply removing these toxins from your diet you can effectively make the 60% of your body, which is water, much healthier and happier! Filtered water has been shown to improve the immune system, improve overall bodily health and function, improve the health of hair and skin, as well as help with mental health! Aside from the health risks associated with unfiltered water, all of these contaminants and toxins in the water can seriously damage the plumbing in your home. Chlorine especially, but not to mention the other chemicals, damage the piping, faucets, commodes, and all the little valves and inner-workings that make up a plumbing system.
Okay, you’re still reading, great! Now that we know what’s in the water, why it is bad and how it can affect us and our home, how do we fix it? Well you already know the answer, water filtration. The good news is that you don’t have to have a super fancy, or high speed filtration system to remove the vast majority of these chemicals from the water. A fairly basic carbon filtration system that has regular maintenance performed or a self-maintaining carbon filtration system is more than enough to get the water clean.
